I started writing this song when I finished Jim Henson's biography. I was so moved... picturing Jane Henson holding his hand and eschewing him out of his life. It made me think of monks and nuns who give away their family and friends to live in service of higher consciousness. I realized that I don't think that is a sacrifice I could make. This song is about being thankful for the amazing characters that give the confounding journey of life meaning and something to come back for. I am impressed by those who journey alone but I know my friends have made me who I am and how happy I've become.
lyrics
Aging is an odyssey of the minor keys
Unrelenting, in good company
With tree caught kites and lunar seas
The ground is shaking
The silt is breaking
Beneath your tennis shoes
Do you only want to float away?
Your lawn brings you to your knees
Close enough to see
A skinny sapling in the shade of trees
It looks so thirsty
Do you only want to float away?
I want to let it go, uncork the rivers flow
But when I think of who
Is swimming lazily, who I love endlessly
Part of the love I knew
I know I'd rather be inside your company
There at the hardest knock
No river feels like me
My love will always be
The door that has no lock
