I recently made my nephew a birthday present which was a book for him to draw each animal in Saint-Saens' "Carnival Des Animeaux." this was to help him correlate how instrumental passages of music can represent an image by themselves, hopefully. Saint-Saens is a bit better at this than us, but here is some help for this song! In this tune the listener has suffered a head injury of some kind and awakens still as if in a dream. The bowed bass and plucked piano strings help to show an otherworldly angelic scene. And then! The piano chords signal some elevation to "normal" consciousness. You are excited now and think you have a grasp, but things then get a bit weirder. Now when the trumpet comes in you can hear some one saying something as if underwater. It's hard to tell what that is - this was actually me singing into water - Then your dream ends and your are awakened to the realization that those words you heard were the lovely "Nurse Shannon" asking how many fingers you see! You're alive! Let's Party!
